Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea, E. angustifolia, E. pallida) is the most widely used medicinal herb in North America and one of the top-selling herbal supplements globally. Native to the North American prairies, it was the primary medicine of over a dozen Native American tribes, who used it for infections, wounds, snake bites, and toothaches. It was introduced to mainstream medicine in the late 1800s and has since become the subject of over 800 published scientific studies.
